Winter Sunset on the Beach

No, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. I'm still alive and still taking pics but my artistic muse took a vacation and left me lacking in photo-mojo. I'm happy to say that my muse has returned and is poking and prodding me to pick up the camera and get back at it. This pic was taken a few days ago on the shores of Lake Michigan at sunset. The outer lighthouse is coated in ice and there is snow mixed with the sand on the dunes. Old man winter has returned to Michigan!

Wintry Evening

This is a painting I did the other night. It's serene, isn't it? That's what I was going for. I'm no artist. I guess we can all agree on that. But I had fun creating this painting and I like the way it came out. There are about 3 dozen other people who created the same painting the same night at Painting With a Twist. I highly recommend the experience and I look forward to trying it again. :-)

Frozen Morning at the Duck Pond

It was a bright and sunny morning at the duck pond. Too cold to be comfortable for long but I did grab a few quick pics.  I love the contrast of the warm morning sun on the grass and trees against the icy blue sky, water, and shadows on snow. Definitely a calm and serene place this morning.

Feline Serenity

I asked Vladi to give me a serene pose and this is what he came up with. Pretty good, eh?

Serenity

New year. New camera. New outlook.

I've chosen to adopt "serenity" as my theme word for 2013. I'm not intending to limit myself to only featuring pics inspired by that word here but I am hoping to share many with that in mind. Serenity is something I'm striving to have more of in my life and what better way to challenge myself artistically than to feature it in my photography as well.

In 2011 I tried the 365 Project here (a picture a day). It went pretty well. For the most part I enjoyed the challenge and was proud to have seen it through for all 365 days. In 2012 I tried the more modest Project 52 (a picture a week). That didn't go well at all. Basically  I forgot about it after the first few weeks. I won't try that one again.

This is a new year and I'm up for a new challenge, so "serenity" it will be. Who knows, maybe by the end of the year I'll be the Queen of Serene. ;-)
