Smile on Saturday

I know, I haven't posted anything here in quite a while. My photo mojo has taken a hike and I'm seriously lacking in inspiration right now. But here's a recent picture of my Vladi. He got a trim at the groomer's place. Isn't he a cutie???

Have a nice Saturday and a wonderful weekend!

Summer Dreaming

I just can't get excited about the prolonged winter we're having this spring. So I'm doing some summer dreaming about warm summer evenings along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Here's a picture from last summer. Can't you just feel the gentle warm breeze blowing when you look at this picture of the beach at sunset? Oh how I'd like to feel the warmth of the sun again. (Right now outside it's 39F, cloudy, raw, with on and off rain showers.) Yes, I'm summer dreaming...

March in Review

Here it is, April 1st, and March is in the books so to speak. I was quite surprised when I looked back on this blog and realized that I only posted one picture for the whole month. Yeesh! It's not that I didn't take any pictures in March, I took quite a few. And I know I shared some on Google+ (my social media of choice) direct from my phone, but I was sure I'd posted more here too. Oh well, guess not.

March was a good month for me photography-wise. I went to my first photography seminar early in the month and learned about wildlife photography, weekend photo shoots, and perspective.  The seminar was put on by Midwest Photography Workshops. It was their first ever but they plan to make it an annual thing. I hope they do. I will have to learn to be more selective about which sessions I attend though. They didn't have them designated by experience level and as a result I attended a couple that were aimed at beginners (which I'm not) and a couple that were beyond me (using expensive equipment that I don't ever plan to invest in).

The weather here in Michigan was cold, and gloomy, and snowy in March. Winter just wouldn't let go and move on. That kind of weather is interesting and challenging to photograph in November and December, less so in January and February, and pretty boring by March. I did get some nice pictures of the lighthouse in St Joseph iced-over though. Here's an example at sunset...

Since I fully expect the ice on the outer lighthouse to be gone by the next time I get a chance to photograph it I'll share another pic.

I didn't get to attend the butterfly workshop at the end of the month that I was planning on but the nice folks at the Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids are going to let me attend the April workshop instead. :-)

One good great thing did happen at the end of the month though. Google (who bought the NIK software plugin company a while back) offered their entire suite of professional photo editing plugins free to anyone who had previously purchased any one of the NIK products. That would be me! So now I have the whole suite of NIK plugins to play with and oh am I having fun! I love Google!!!

So now I will have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me as I learn to tweak the tools in the new plugins but I think I'm up to the task. I'm starting out by watching some of the many NIK videos available on YouTube. I expect you will see some of the results of my efforts here in the weeks and months to come.

Happy April! Happy Spring!
