Day 147, The Glory of Purple

This lovely clematis lives at the home I'm still hoping to buy.
It knows how much I admire it and I think it wants me to be its new owner. Don't you think it looks like it wants me to move in and take care of it?

Day 146, Memorial Day

Veteran's graves at Riverside Cemetery in St. Joseph, Michigan. Gone but not forgotten.

Day 145, Honoring Our Fallen Heroes

There is no better place to be on Memorial Day to honor our fallen heroes than in St. Joseph's Lake Bluff Park. There are memorials to the soldiers of The Great War (WWI)...

The European and Pacific theaters of WWII...

The Korean War...

...And the Vietnam War.

The whole length of Lake Bluff Park is lined with American flags...
It's a beautiful and fitting tribute that makes me proud to be an American and a resident of St. Joseph.

Day 144, Moooo!

This is one of the items on display at St. Joseph's annual summer public art display. This piece is titled, "Moosaic". It's one of 43 animals on the streets of St Joe in the exhibit called, "Barnyard at the Beach". Made you smile, didn't it?

Day 143, A Favorite Lake Michigan Sunset

OK, so there wasn't any sun today either. This is a picture of a photograph of my favorite Lake Michigan sunset. This picture is above my bed. I had to get creative in figuring out how to share a photograph with sunshine today when we never saw the sun. So this is what you get. :-)

Day 142, After the Rains

This is what it looks like down the street from me. Hines Park is a natural flood plain but we don't usually see it looking like a lake.
We're fortunate that our basement didn't flood. Many of our neighbors weren't as lucky.
I hope this duck obeys the speed limit although if he doesn't I doubt if any of our local law enforcement will go after him, lol!

I sure hope we're done with the rain now. I'm tired of photographing it and blogging about it. I'd like the next photo I share here to include sunshine!

Day 141, And Then The Rains Came (Again)

Puddles, puddles, everywhere...
If this keeps up, we'll have lake front property. I hate to complain given all (tornadoes) that the folks of Missouri have had to deal with in recent days, so I won't. We've had over 2 inches of rain so far today and we're forecast to get 1-3 more inches of rain overnight and into tomorrow. Our highways in the Detroit area are flooded, many people's basements are flooded, and the storms and rain continue. But, it could be so much worse. I will count my blessings and hope that we will all see rainbows and blue skies soon.

Day 140, Red

These little birds take their nesting seriously. Evidently they're very partial to the color red.

Day 139, Temptation

Today is my dear husband's birthday and I baked him a cake. It's a yellow batter cake with a pudding & cream cheese layer topped with crushed pineapple and whipped topping. It's cool, creamy, and sweet. Yum!

Day 138, The Rose Garden

This isn't the prettiest of photos. I had a hard time getting a good angle for this shot. My dear husband spent all afternoon relocating 8 rose bushes from our front yard to the side yard. They will get lots more sun here and hopefully they will survive the transplant and thrive. I'm thinking of this as more or less the "before" photo. Hopefully in a few weeks they'll be blooming and I'll have a beautiful "after" photo to show you. I love roses!

Day 137, Michigan in Stone

My neighbor has one of those yards that's full of "stuff"... you know, yard art, bird houses, etc. This stone piece in the image of the state of Michigan is one of my favorite things from his collection.

Day 136, This Week in My Garden

The best part of spring is watching it unveil itself in the way of flora and fauna. This is the new blossom in my garden this week. I have no idea what it is but it sure is pretty. And yes, there is sunlight in the picture! This makes two days in a row that we have seen the sun for at least a little while. I hope the sunshine continues... I've got lots of yard work to do!

Day 135, Blue Skies!

See it? See the blue? It's the first bit of blue skies we've seen in a week. And it's felt like a very long week too. The grey gloominess has taken its toll and moods around here have been gloomy as well. As I'm looking out my office window, I see sunshine. However, there are still a lot of grey clouds in the sky. I'm happy for any little bit of sunshine I can get though!

Day 134, Vladi in Pink

I thought Vladi would look pretty in my pink scarf. He wasn't too crazy about the idea as you can tell from his expression. He was a good sport though!

Day 133, Glee!

I grabbed this shot of (most of) the Glee cast. Glee is my current favorite TV show. Next week is the season finale and then I'll have to wait until next fall for a new season to begin. I'll miss the show!

Day 132, My Favorite Flower of Spring

Can you smell them? Lilacs are my favorite flower of spring. They're pretty and they have a beautiful scent. These are from the lilac bush in my front yard.

Day 131, Surf's Up!

Today it rained all day. But a dedicated photographer doesn't let that stop them! I headed out to the beach this morning in search of my picture of the day. I was delighted to find a surfing class at the beach.
Most people don't think you can surf on the Great Lakes but the surfers in the area would certainly disagree with that idea. The waves may not be as big as ocean waves but they're plenty big enough to have fun on them.
It was pouring rain when I was taking these pictures this morning and the water temperature was about 48F. All those little black specs in the water are surfers in wet suits. Up close they look like the guy walking on the beach.
These guys are heading in and calling it a day.
But others were still going at it as I called it a day myself and dried off my camera. You just never know what you'll find at the beach!

Day 130, Grey Day at the Beach

What a difference a day makes. A cold front came through and dropped the temperature 30 degrees in about an hour's time. The day was grey and the lake was churning. You can barely make out the lighthouses on the pier...
The beach was a lonely place today, no sunbathers in sight.
These were the only beach inhabitants in this weather.

Day 129, Part 2 - The Lovely Ravine

The Lovely Ravine

A view of the dogwood tree in bloom from our living room window.
The dogwood blossoms up close.
Something pretty in purple...
I think this is the same something pretty in pink...
Something a little different in white...
A different little lovely in purple...
The lush ravine in bloom behind our condo.

If you can identify any of the flowers I've included here, please leave me a comment and let me know what they are!

Day 129, Part 1 - Morning Walk on the Beach

A Morning Walk on the Beach

A gentle wave whooshing on shore...
Mother Nature's work of art... driftwood.
An old pier in the lake.
A child's footprint in the sand.

Day 128, Late Spring in Southwest Michigan

It was an absolutely lovely day to be in Southwest Michigan. Here are just a very few of the many lovely pictures I was able to capture this day...
The high temperature of the day was 87F. It was so nice to lay out on the beach (Lake Michigan) and soak up some rays. However, sunning was one thing, swimming in the lake was another story entirely. These kids were nuts... the water temperature was only 48F. Needless to say, they didn't stay in long.
The water fountains have been turned on in St. Joseph.
Took a drive into the countryside to photograph some fruit tree blossoms. I'll be posting an whole article about my adventures on my Discover St. Joseph blog soon. Had a marvelous time and got some great photos. I believe the blossoms above are cherry.
And these are apple, but I can't remember which variety of apple...
Played a game of "lets try to photograph a bee landing" and got lucky as this guy approached this Golden Delicious apple tree. I'm not going to admit to how many tries it took to get this shot, lol!
Ended the day with a lovely Lake Michigan sunset.

Day 127, Chicago Bound

Made a quick trip to Chicago. Here are a few pics from the morning drive in...
This is the truck from the Polish Market in Troy, Michigan headed for Chicago. No doubt it was making a pickup from a Polish importer in the Chicago area.
Rush hour traffic was awful. Chicago has Detroit beat on that score.
I like Maker's Mark very much but I never think of it as the Chicago Loop, lol!
I cringed when I saw these folks up in the air. Somebody has to tend to water towers... so glad it's not me!
Quite the angry bull, eh? This guy satisfies my DPS theme for next week: Angry.
I think these gas prices are also enough to make one angry, lol! Yikes! And I thought prices were high in the Detroit area... Chicago definitely has us beat on this score too.
